Because I'm cool like that...

Okay, so maybe that title was a little misleading...;-D

Actually, Kate-Gabrielle over at Silents and Talkies has started a tag of sorts about one's favorite movies post-1970. So, I decided to jump on the bandwagon (I love the phrase, for absolutely no apparent reason).

Now, I really am not a HUGE fan of movies made after 1970, but there are some exceptions, namely: Pixar, Jane Austen, and the occasional mainstream film that everyone else loves and is typically quite stupid. But, besides those three groups there isn't much.

Now, I have a sinking feeling that I really shouldn't be sharing this list (especially so soon after my confession of watching certain reality TV shows), but seriously, for someone born in the 90's I feel like I normally have pretty good taste in films (because I LOVE old movies more than anything else in the entire world)! And, none of these movies make it to my top twenty-five films ever!!!! Anyways, here goes!

My top 12 since 1970 (In ABSOLUTELY no order, but divided into groups):

Pixar:

Toy Story
(1995)

Hey, who doesn't love the talking toys?

Toy Story 2 (1999)

Same here! One of the few sequels that lives up to it's predecessor...and more. I love "2" even more than the original.

Wall-E (2008)

Pixar is so stinkin' amazing! A robot who searches for love...I LOVE it! Pixar manages to make a little robot be the coolest hero of the best and most whimsical movie of 2008.

Jane Austen:

Emma (1996)

Emma has always been one of my favorites (it was made only a few years after I was born). This is a sparkling adaptation. And, Gwyneth gives a quite frankly amazing performance.

Northanger Abbey (2007)

My favorite Jane Austen novel ever! This film (well, I guess "technically" it aired on TV originally) is so super-amazing. Andrew Davies' screenplay lends a very light touch to this most hilarious of all Jane's novels (and the actors are all splendid)!

Pride and Prejudice (2003)

Okay, so I enjoy all the adaptations of P&P (Greer's version is my favorite) and my mom owns practically every version ever made (my mom is an Austen fanatic and knows practically everything about her, enough in fact that she is teaching a class next year on her). But, this version is so HILARIOUS. It's set in modern day, and is quite frankly amazing.

Persuasion (2007)

Love, love, love, love, love, love this!

The occasional mainstream film that everyone else loves and is typically quite stupid:

Ella Enchanted (2004)

Hahaha, I really have no excuse for this movie. I didn't like the book, but for some strange reason I loved this movie. If you can get beyond all the surface "jokes", what one finds is a lovely little fairy tale...that is oh-so much fun!

Night At The Museum (2006)

No excuse again. Except that I love history. And Owen Wilson's (and I NEVER usually like Owen Wilson) uncredited cameo as Jedidiah, the height-challenge cowboy...who doesn't like to be "man-handled" always makes me laugh.

National Treasure (2004)

This movie is so amazing! I adore history (in fact, pretty soon I will be unveiling a new blog, dedicated to just that) and this film is all history (mostly correct). The history "geeks": Nicholas Cage and Diane Kruger felt like kindred spirits. And, Riley is one of the best side-kicks ever. And plus this movie is SO quotable.

Pirates of the Caribean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

I didn't in any way like the other two, but this original was classic. Jack Sparrow (hilariously played by Johnny Depp) is now one of the great characters of film, IMUO (in my unworthy opinion). And, this movie is quotable too.

Ice Age (2002)

Sid the three-toed sloth is quite frankly, genius.

There was my list. Not at all cool like Sarah's, Kate's, or Elizabeth's. Which all included good/ foreign/obsure jewels/indies. But, it is what it is...;-D

Thanks for sticking around. I'll be back to "all these classic, all things vintage" directly!

I've actually seen almost every film on this list! It's funny, I think the movies you picked from the 2000's are the ONLY movies I've seen from the 2000's. We own Pirates on DVD and my little brother made me watch if a gazillion times & I actually saw Emma in theaters when I was little.

Back to all things classic, all things vintage for me too :)

That is funny. Nice, yes, I actually do like Pirates...it's so happy.

Oh, cool, you saw it in theaters. That sounds like fun.

Yes, we shall return...;-D

Nice selection! Are you LDS?

Millie said...

Helen: Thanks.

I don't know whay you means by LDS? Are you referring to the Mormon church? Because if you are, my answer is no.

Sorry,
I did mean Mormon, I just wondered when I saw the Mormon Pride and Prejudice. A LDS freind had me watch, I wasnt a fan!

Oh, it's totally fine. Yes, I figured that's what you meant (because of P&P). I'm definitely not Mormon, but I've always liked the movie (and there is nothing blatantly Mormon about it). But, some people I show it to, don't like it either...mainly because of the "not the best" actors. Hahaha...

-Millie!

P.S. I had a bunch of typos in my other comment. Sorry about that!

I actually really liked "The Night at the Museum"! I'd like to see the sequel when it's out on DVD.

Same here. I hear that Pixar has a new movie...I go and see it. (Although, I haven't been able to see UP yet.) I wasn't a huge fan of Cars, Nemo, or The Incredibles, but anything Pixar does is always original and extremely well-done!

National Treasure is so much fun! I quote it all the time (mainly Riley's lines...lol)!
