Lovely Lady of the Week: Inger Stevens

My Lovely Lady of the week is Inger Stevens.

Inger was an absolutely gorgeous lady from Sweden (an amazing country which also can boast about Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo, and Lolita).

I must confess I really haven't seen Inger in too much. But, ever since I first saw her a few years ago in a Twilight Zone episode...I have never forgotten her. The episode was titled The Hitchhiker. Besides that fact that it is an amazing story and superbly acted, I was even more struck by the sheer beauty of Inger. She was so gorgeous...but also so natural... I have seen her in other TV shows (most notably Bonanza and another Twilight Zone episode) and she was in several famous films which I AM gonna watch (despite the fact that she almost always co-starred with a variety of my least favorite actors). She also was the star of the TV show The Farmer's Daughter, which I have not had the privilege to watch.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this tribute to this extremely lovely lady who led a tragic life and died much too young.

Also, C. Parker over at Starlet Showcase wrote a very nice post about Inger, which I stumbled upon last week while searching for a specific photo. Check it out!

Enjoy:

^Don't you just love those cute little pants?

Do you agree? Inger was amazingly beautiful!

Wow, Inger picspam! I love it. Inger lived here in town for several years (before my time) so I've always been interested in her, and really like her work, especially "Man on Fire". She's the perfect balance to an otherwise unlikeable Bing Crosby.

I love her Twilight Zone episodes! The Hitchhiker is on tonight on the SciFi channel, and I'm really looking forward to seeing it again! :)

Those are lovely pictures of her. I love the pic of her right above the cute little pants shot. I also did not know she died so young. So sad. I'm familiar with her mostly from one of my favorite Westerns, "Five Card Stud," and Route 66. I've seen several other things she's done, but those are what I remember her for.

How pretty, great picspam!

Stacia: That's so cool...to have lived in the same town as Inger once did. I have never seen that movie, but I'll have to check it out.

Kate: Twilight Zone is definitely amazing. That is so amazingly weird that they are playing The Hitchhiker!!!!!!! I had no idea.

DKoren: I adore that photo. It always reminds me a bit of Grace Kelly. My library has Five Card Stud, so I think I will check it out...despite the fact I really don't like Dean Martin or Robert Mitchum.

Sarah: She was pretty.

Alexis: I know people from Sweden are pretty amazing. My relatives come from Finland, which is also amazing.

I was a huge fan of Ms. Stevens. I was fortunate enough to see her in person in 1968, at the St. Louis Lambert Airport. She was truly beautiful, and a great actress. I still miss her.

I've been in love with her since I saw the hitchhiker episode.

There are some really nice pictures of Inger on this page. Especially the 9th one down. But, there's another picture that belongs here too. There's a site called acephotos.org, that has several galleries of Inger. In gallery 7, second row, all the way to the right is the best picture I've ever seen of Inger. The picture was posted by someone known as thriftstorejunkie. I wonder if someone here or just someone in general has more pictures from this particular photo shoot. If so, please post them here, or on that other site. She was an amazing princess!!

I'm glad you liked this post!

And thanks for the heads up! I will totally go check that out!

Millie, you can also go on youtube (in case you didn't know) and type in Inger Stevens, and there are 3 slideshows that you can watch. One is called a little Inger Stevens, another is a little more Inger Stevens, and the 3rd is Inger Stevens mini bio. Also, you can find a short clip from the hitchhiker episode too.

Mike Berka said...

Millie, and everyone else, for that matter. You can go on google, and type the hitchhiker, the twilight zone and you can watch the whole episode, right on your computer. Just click on the picture from the show. They're around the third link down.

Mike, if I follow your directions correctly, that specific photo of Inger from acephotos.org that you mention is a vidcap from Run, Simon, Run. Most of the pics from acephotos.org can also be found on the Inger website, www.ingerstevens.org

Mike Berka said...

Anonymous, hi there, thanks for the info, but, I've been on that site before, and it's a really good place to see a lot of different photos. As for the acephotos.org site, you know what? Some pictures must have been added. So, that means that the photo I was talking about is still in gallery 7, but, it's the 3rd row down, and 3rd picture over. I've never seen a more beautiful photo of Inger than that one. Also, I've been trying very hard to find other photos from that particular photo shoot, but I haven't been able to come up with anything. There has to be more somewhere, but where? It's amazing how gorgeous she looks in that photo. I just can't get her out of my mind, and I actually have that photo as my desktop. She's an absolute dreamgirl!

Hi Millie, I have some information for you, and everyone else for that matter. It's quite obvious that Thursday is New Year's eve, and Friday is New Year's day. That means that The Twilight Zone marathon will be on once again, on the Sci-Fi channel. I live in the Chicago area, so that means that I'm in the Central Time Zone. The Hitchhiker episode will be played on Thursday at 4:30 PM. So, that means that whoever isn't in the Central Time Zone, will have to make the proper arrangements. I just thought I would pass that along. Also, the marathon actually starts at 7:30 AM on Thursday.

There will NEVER be another like Inger.
I still remember her movie with Harry Belafonte - last on earth
I wish that was her & I.

Lovely photos of Inger Stevens. Thank you for the gorgeous photos and Happy New Year!

Millie said...

Mike: Oooh, thanks for the info! Unfortunately, I don't have cable! But, I do have the first season on DVD, so I have that amazing episode!

Franki: Totally! But, it's really impossible to find a NON-gorgeous photo of Inger!

Millie, I have 3 favorite parts in the Hitchhiker episode. The part I like the most, is when Inger is at the cafe, asking that man about seeing any hitchhikers around here. Just look at her, with that headband,(which by the way, I love when girls wear them) and how great she looks with it. I mean, wow her hair just looks so good. Also another is the nice sweater that she's wearing. The second part I like is at the beginning, when she has that hat on. Does she look adorable or what? Last, I like the part at the gas station, when you can really get a good look at her. Again, the hat is just adorable. I think though, that the parts with the headband are without a doubt the best. What a princess! Also, wow, I'm jealous, I guess I'm not the only one who has a crush on Inger Stevens.

Millie said...

Oh wow! I know I ADORE that headband. I really just love headbands! And she just looked "cool" in it. She is such a style inspiration for me.

The hat is amazing too. I wish hats were in style still...:-(

Hahaha, competition! ;-D

Mike, sorry, but I'm still not too clear which pic at acephtotos.org you're referring to: last I checked, 3rd row, 3rd over is color vidcap from Run, Simon, Run, dinner party scene (white dress, elaborate necklace); 4th over is B/W pic of Inger sitting in white lace dress...? BTW, the hat, slightly tilted, is so stylish!

Mike Berka said...

Anonymous, the photo must have moved again. Gallery 7, 3rd row, 4th over. Yes, the white lace dress. I'm looking for more photos from that photo shoot, but I can't seem to find any others besides that. There was a photo similiar to that on ebay, but it was a little different, and the size was 2x2. I've never seen a more beautiful photo of her than this lace dress one. Again, I just can't believe how beautiful she looked with that headband and sweater in the cafe scene of the Hitchhiker episode. I can't get her out of my mind, and I need to find someone who reminds me of her.

Mike, thanks for verifying. I think the photo shoot was done in 1969; she first wore the white lace top/pantsuit in 1968 while in Paris & Rome filming "House of Cards". I seem to recall being told she often got to keep items from wardrobe after being used/purchased for her films. Will look into finding more pics in that outfit; check her website for updates.

BTW, Millie, this is a great blog; all of the old stars and movies seem like fresh memories!

Anonymous said...

Mike, I've included your search for any additional pics from that specific photo shoot on the Inger website; here's to hoping something turns up on this classic star!

Mike Berka said...

Anonymous, that sounds good to me. I still look here and there from time to time, but I still can't find any others. Like I mentioned before, there HAS to be more photos from that shoot. Even if it's just a couple. For example, the photos that Millie has posted here, photos 1 and the 9th one down are from the same shoot. Actually, I like those as well, but haven't been able to find a 3rd or 4th from those. I'm telling you though, the lace outfit, and the hairstyle, are just wonderful, and that is my all time favorite photo shoot of Inger. She's an absolute darling princess.

Anonymous said...

Mike, I did post a couple of pics of Inger in the lace outfit, but those were shot in Rome, not the shoot you're looking for. Let's hope something turns up from my photo search invitation on the Inger site! As for Millie's photos #1 and #9, there isn't much to help identify the time frame or the photographer. It might be related to the Clairol ad she did with Leslie Blanchard, but hard to say. The first time I saw #1 and #9 was on the IMDB site, and yes, haven't seen anything since! Oh well, the hunt goes on!

Mike Berka said...

Anonymous, the photo of Inger in the lace outfit where she's standing is very good too. I haven't been able to come across any others from that shoot, but WOW that would be something to find more like that too. The hairstyle is similiar to the other lace shoot as well. I came across that photo on ebay just a few weeks ago. But that was the 1st time I ever saw that shoot. NOW, I have to wonder if there are other "lace shoots" out there as well. I mean, here are 2 different ones that are superb, and now my curiousity is running wild with the thought of other lace photo shoots similiar to these 2 possibly out there. As for photos 1 and 9,on this site, I wish I could possibly come across more of those!

I wonder if anyone can anwser this question. Where did the hitchhiker episode take place? I'm sure it was somewhere in California, but I wonder where? Maybe the Cajon Pass area, or around the Tehachapi Mountains? Also, I wonder where the part with the train took place as well. I think only the experts may be able to come up with the anwsers.

I quickly scanned the preceding comments to see if anyone mentioned "The Borgia Stick." This was a '60s thriller with Inger Stevens & Don Murray as husband and wife doing something of interest to the FBI. The agent who is after them is a very young Ralph Waite, who currently plays Gibbs' father on NCIS. Some neat twists and turns in this little-known film.
I had a crush on Inger for the entire time that "The Farmer's Daughter" ran.
This is an interesting site. Thanks for doing it.
