Photo of the Day!

Gorgeous Deanna Durbin!

I am SO depressed right now! My personalized, signed photo from her has gone missing! It was sitting on my desk, because I didn't have the right frame size for it yet...and did a bit of cleaning my room...and now I can't find it anywhere! It's been about a month! :'(

Carole Lombard Birthday Tag!

That's right! The lady who originally inspired the phrase of Stupendously Amazingly Cool (a now classic of mine...;-D) is turning 101!

And to celebrate Harley over at Dreaming in Black and White started a questionnaire tag all about The Carole.

I am so excited to answer some questions about this very special lady!

1. Favorite Carole Film

Too hard! I really can't decide between To Be or Not To Be and Mr. and Mrs. Smith! Ugh! The pain! Um, okay, I think my favorite Carole ROLE is as Anne Smith...so Mr. and Mrs. Smith it is, but TBoNTO is EXTREMELY close! We're talking like tortoise racing turtle close (it doesn't make sense to me either)! And I ADORE My Man Godfrey (the Carole I was first acquainted with at the age of 3). Anyways, moving on!

2. Carole's career was cut tragically short in 1942. Though she worked with many amazing and talented actors, who would you have liked to see her with?

Hmm, I'm always really awful at these kind of answers... I would for sure I loved to see her work with Clark a little more! And, I think that she and Ray Milland in a crazy screwball would have been interesting!

3. Ok, so who was your favorite out of Carole's leading men?

Without a doubt Robert Montgomery!

4. Do you think Carole's relevant today? if so, why?

Absolutely! One thing that is particularly fascinating about Carole is how fresh and modern she seems even today (I can only imagine back in her day what is was like)!

^This photo looks like it was taken in modern times! It's of The Carole skeet-shooting!

5. Do you agree with contemporary views that someone like Cameron Diaz is the new Carole Lombard?

Are you stinkin' kidding? I don't have anything against Cameron (per se), but a comparison with The Carole is completely unwarranted and absolutely idiotic! I'm just saying...;-D

^Do think Cameron Diaz could pull off a hat like that? I think not!

6. On a scale of 1-10, how cool was Carole?

Excuse me Harley, but I say 21! ;-D

Happy (couple hours early) Birthday to the original Stupendously Amazingly Cool Carole Lombard! You have been missed dreadfully!

Photo of the Day!

It's James Dean Sunday!

...From East of Eden.

You may have noticed that I changed my blog layout. I don't know if I like it or not. I am a creature of habit, and found it excruciatingly difficult even when I just changed my header a few weeks ago. Now, I have changed not only the background, but also the entire layout! I really prefer it when the sidebar is on the left side, but ah well! Let me know what you think of it!

Now just for nostalgia's sake:

Lovely Lady of the Week: Gina Lollobrigida

After, a bit of an absence (sorry!) my Lovely Lady series returns with La Lollo (aka Gina Lollobrigida)!

Gina is a multi-talented lady (actress, sculptress, painter, photographer/photojournalist) who just happens to be absolutely gorgeous! I just adore her. I think it's difficult not to. In her films and in real-life she's just too darn likable! My favorite of her films is Come September. It's simply too perfect for words...and a large part of that is due to Gina. And, by the way, she is WAY more amazing than Sophia Loren!

Enjoy!

^With her adorable son, Mirko.

The other night...

The other night, I had just watched The Notorious Landlady for the first time ever (thanks to Kate-Gabrielle) and was in that always after I watch any amazing new movie mood, where I need to watch something equally amazing. I mentally checked my mom's/family's extensive (we're talking hundreds) DVD collection, and wasn't coming up with anything interesting.

So, I literally checked my own collection...nothing! I mean, for the first time in my life, I just didn't want to watch Gidget Goes Hawaiian...;-D

So, I checked my stack from the library. Unfortunately, everything I had was super-depressing! Except for Captain Blood, but I promised to watch that with my littlest brother!

Suddenly, in a strange (and very unusual) burst of courage I decided to watch A Summer Place. You must understand, I have seen this movie just once...when I was 12 (and first really loved Sandra Dee). With that title and beach-like looking scene on the cover, I thought for sure it was going to be "just like Gidget".

If you know the film, you can probably imagine the shocked traumatization in my 12 year-old mind at the realization about 20 minutes in, that Sandra Dee was not going to be surfing!

It was an awful experience!

Anyways, back to the present.

I quickly walked over to my DVD player with A Summer Place in hand, I felt so brave.

And then I opened the case.

And I saw Troy Donahue's face. And, I begun to practically hyperventilate at the thought of over two hours of Troy's endless, mindless, boringness! Also, I recalled that Richard Egan and Dorothy McGuire (two actors who give me the shivers just thinking about their annoyingness) were also in it!

I just couldn't go through with it! I put the DVD back.

I deserted Sandra Dee!

I left her to the enemy...to perpetually live with Richard Egan as her wacko father, Dorothy McGuire as her weird stepmother, and that random star...who one can't understand why he's a star.

I'm sorry Sandra!

^Sandra attempting to hide from Troy...

...It didn't work! Poor, poor Sandra!

Anyways, to assuage my incredibly guilty feelings, I decided to watch one of my own films: That Funny Feeling.

This has Sandra Dee in a better environment, with better people surrounding her. Including the endlessly not-boring Bobby Darin, who with his charm and charisma could never be mistaken for That Other One with the scary voice!

And thus ends the saga of...well, I know I started out writing this with a point in mind, but I cannot for the life of me remember what it is now!

I'm not even joking! Sorry!

^This is right!
